The following is a proposal for a research campus connected by both the natural and unnatural urban landscape in which it studies. We are interested in exploring an alternative to the college campus where the location of the campus is more than merely an amenity but also the subject of the University discourse. Like the concept of The Archipelago, our project is conceived of as an urban-scale approach based in the statement(s) of architectural form weaving the established complexity of the Landscape and/or city.
We are putting primacy in the structure and generative power of forms within the landscape that, with their scale and gestural specificity, territoriality sections of the landscape in which to conduct focused study. Derelict sites, brownfields, and former industrial zones adjacent to dense cities physically and culturally are attempted as bucolic or developmental opportunities however we are considering these sites as complex and distinct opportunities for scientific study relating to the fields of wildlife, reclamation, and waste management.
